In this episode, Rachel will talk about what she really does as a self specialist. All of us are connected by the spark of creation- which is proven by quantum physics - and every person has a different set of skills and passions and ways to contribute.

Magic Barclay:

Welcome back to a Magical Life. I'm your host, magic Barclay. And today Rachel Rejoins us. Welcome back, Rachel. Thank you so

Rachel Astarte:

much. Magic. It's great to be back.

Magic Barclay:

Now, in our last episode, we went through our, questions that we always go through and you mentioned a couple of times about self and being a self specialist. First of all, can you explain what a self specialist is and then maybe talk to the listeners about how important that sense of self

Rachel Astarte:

really is. That's great. Yes, I'd be happy to. so when I refer to myself as a self specialist, it means that I am a specialist in helping you find and discover your highest self and that. Is my life's purpose, right? Is to have everyone discover the magic that is within them. What makes you unique? What makes you, shine in this world? Because we need that now. And that maybe starts to answer second part of the question. What we need more than anything right now is the world around us is changing. Is to feel comfortable in who we are. And from that point, be able to take that comfort, craft that into, what are the skillsets that I offer the world? what are the things that make me. Radiate with my uniqueness because there is no one else in the world just like you. And when we all can do that, imagine what the world would be like if we were all living our as our highest selves. As our best selves. Now that doesn't mean that we're all enlightened and we're all perfect. Yeah, we still have to take the garbage out and brush our teeth, clean the cap box, all that stuff. But I'm talking about how we interact with other people. How do we show up in the world? What gifts are we returning to the world around us? And imagine what the world would be like if we could all do that without shame, without fear of, of not being the person our parents expected us to be. Or our partners, or our teachers or colleagues or whatever. so this is a, A lot of work, but I find it to be extremely joyful, more of an adventure than work in, in my therapy practice. Because you get to uncover, it's almost like we're both archeologists, right? And we're, we're going through a. All of the, the expanse of who you are and, and digging deep and finding the gems and, harvesting them and cleaning them off and presenting them to the world. it's really important for us to, do this. or else we end up feeling as though we've missed out. In life if we're too caught up with the pain of our childhood or the traumas we've experienced, and maybe not even our childhood. It sometimes it's that. Sometimes it's just unhealthy relationships or a dead end job. Something where we feel stuck, then we're not shining our light because we've lost touch with The beauty and the light of who we are. And so that's what my work is as a self specialist, is to help you uncover that because we all have something to contribute,

Magic Barclay:

certainly and very well said. Now, what's something that the listeners can glean from all of your expertise? What's something that you feel they really need to hear?

Rachel Astarte:

Everyone needs to understand something very simple, which is you have the divine spark of creation within you. Now, I'm also a science person. I love science, so this sounds a little woowoo and spiritual. When I say it, it is that it is also science. It's quantum physics actually. So we are all. Connected, and I'm sure many people have heard that, but there's actual science to back that up, right? We talk about Einstein's spooky action at a distance, right? We are connected through, creation. How did we all come to be? Whether it's Divine force or the Big Bang, whatever it is, creation lives within you. A spark of that lives within you. So think about how powerful you are and what our job is in this life is to fan that spark and really let our light shine. and it isn't always easy. That's, that's why I do the work I do, is to help. uncover the blocks or, or the obstacles that are in the way and clear them, so that we can understand. We carry immense power within each of us. And the beautiful part about it is no one carries the power that you do. No one in the world, at least in this. Universe or in this dimension is anything like you. That's amazing. That's amazing. And so I wanna hear that voice. I wanna see that person. that is nothing like anyone else. and the beautiful part is we all have that. We all have that, beauty within us. I

Magic Barclay:

love that. Now. Obviously we discussed in your bio last episode about you being an author. Can you tell us about your books? You've written both fiction and non-fiction titles, so can you tell us a bit more about your writing, where your source of inspiration comes from, and about your books.

Rachel Astarte:

yes, so this is how I actually started this was the family business. My father was a poet and my mother was a writer, is my father has passed. My mother is still alive. My mother was, also a writer and she's an actor as well. So I joined the family business. I started in writing poetry and I eventually moved to theater. So I've always been a writer and, I consider myself a writer before anything else. And the crossover in the Venn diagram of what I do is communication. So as a therapist, obviously I love to communicate as a writer. the theme is communication is how do I let. My readers know they're not alone. And so, when I write, whether it's fiction or non-fiction, or even screenplays, which I've also written, the main theme in one way or another is the character, learning something new and growing, into their true selves, right? So, that's an extremely important theme. So even though it looks like I do different things in my life, the theme really does come back to that, to developing the self in such a way that, you know, as I said, you can be your, your best self in the world. so I have self-published two novels. one of them is called the Bride of Manhattan, and this one was about, and this is for younger readers. by younger, I mean late twenties. this story is about a young woman who's going through her Saturn return, which is a very volatile time. Maybe some of your listeners know about it, some maybe you don't. When. Saturn is in the same position in the sky as it was the year you were born. So take seven years for Saturn to go a quarter of the way around. Uh, so every seven years, you. Move a quarter. So by the time you're 28, Saturn is in the same position in the sky as it was when you were born. And Saturn is, a little bit of a mischievous planet. And so you may discover that everything you thought you knew about yourself kind of goes out the window and that's what happens to this character in a sort of comical way. So it's a her negotiating her life. From 28 to 30 trying to become the, the woman that she always wanted to be, hopefully by the time she hits 30. So, I also have a background in comedy, so a lot of my writing is very comical. and I also self-published a novel called The Exchange, which is really very much of a romcom, kind of a rom about, A woman who is the assistant to a, a movie star and she joins a dating site trying to find a, a boyfriend cuz she has no time and she ends up, Finding a man that is completely off limits. Uh, in fact, the woman who created the dating site, created it just to keep this man away from everybody else. And so she ends up finding the one guy she's not supposed to find and falls in love with him. And again, very comical. When I do podcasts like these, what we usually talk about is my non-fiction. And the, the major book that I have that I promote is called Celebrating Solitude, how to Discover and Honor Your Highest Self. And so that might be a little more along the lines of, your listeners might be interested in. And that really is a book about, learning how to discover who you are through. The healing. Method of using a solitude practice. So in this book, it, it talks about how do we create a solitude practice? What is solitude for What if I'm not comfortable being by myself, how do I get over that? Why should I bother being in solitude for five minutes, two, two hours a day? How does that serve me? So this book is really a guide for people who are just starting out and don't know quite where to start with this whole self-development thing. I think I answered all your questions, No,

Magic Barclay:

you certainly did answer all of my questions and I was giggling as you were telling us about the fiction, because I'm not normally a fiction reader, but I was thinking, wow, that sounds really funny. I love

Rachel Astarte:

that. Well, they're both on Amazon, so I'm sure you could find them there.

Magic Barclay:

Fantastic. This has been a great conversation and I really do urge the listeners to get in touch with you. So your website is rachel asti therapy.com, and what can they find on your website? Obviously they can get in contact with you, but what other things

Rachel Astarte:

are there? first of all, they can find out what I do in case anyone is looking. By the way I do work, internationally. So, um, although I'm licensed as a therapist only in New York State, in the us I do life coaching all around the world. So that's, if someone's interested in that, they could certainly reach out to me. Also, my email is there, if anyone wants a copy of the, Guided meditation. I have a gift for everyone. If anyone wants a copy of the guided meditation, the website itself. Is a wonderful, adventure. There are many pages you can read. I have a resources page that I think people might just enjoy. Not only are there, practical resources for those who are, experiencing depression or anxiety or addiction. There are links there to help you, get help. But there are also links, Two books, videos, films that I think are extremely helpful for self-development. and there's an entire section on comedy. I have a few, standup comedians that I love and some, some comedy sketches that I include that are specifically chosen. To help you feel better about your life. And so, and all that is free, you know, just, just, uh, visit and enjoy your time there. certainly you can find, how to reach me. there's information there. You can ring me up or you can email me directly. and yeah, pretty much anything anyone would need to know about the work. and what they need to know about me is, is all there on the site.

Magic Barclay:
