Kathryn Glendon:Hello. Thank you so much for having me. it's great to be here
Magic Barclay:and it's great to have you here. Now I ask all of my guests a standard three questions and everyone gives me different answers, which is great. Here's your first one. What can your expertise do to accelerate health, not just physical, but also emotional and spiritual health?
Kathryn Glendon:That's a great question and I love that it. You know, incorporates more than just one part. So what I love to think is my expertise is I like to think of health as a wheel and it has all different parts in it. And so there's physical, there's emotional, there's spiritual. I mean, there's also finances, relationships. Emotion, spirituality, um, among other things. And so when your wheel is kind of missing a spoke, it affects your whole total and body and wellness. So you have to have all of them kind of working together to have that wheel roll. So. 1st, we want to start kind of what I do with my clients as we work on their mind and kind of what's blocking them from different things that may be affecting their health, whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual. And so that's how we kind of work. We work with the brain 1st, because the brain controls everything. And so sometimes it's about reframing situations, working through. Thoughts that may not be serving them anymore, or what is keeping them stuck and you know, kinda what do they desire so that we can work on whatever piece of health that is needed to get to their ultimate goal? So some clients may want to be working on developing a business, or they're so stressed and burned out from developing that business they're experiencing. you know, physical health, you know, emotional health, everything is affecting them. So we kind of go work down and see into the brain about talking about how stress is affecting them and going into why they feel the need to always be at work or how can they better balance their life. Something's not, Working correctly. And so we go in and we work with them, to help them bring that out. And what are their pain points that are keeping them up at night that are ultimately affecting their whole wellness wheel. And we get to work right there.
Magic Barclay:Sounds great. Now we talk about wealth here as well, and you did just mention that people think wealth is just the financial, just the, What is in your bank balance? And to an extent it can be, but it can also be personal and emotional wealth. And I have actually titled this podcast, self care setting boundaries and creating balance. I think the work life balance is often missing, but so is the self care balance. And. We can be quite unwealthy if we don't care for ourselves. So what are your top three tips to creating wealth?
Kathryn Glendon:So wealth is not only related to money, but it's about wealth of yourself. So if you're not taking care of yourself, how can you create wealth? and what is wealth mean to you? Does wealth mean having enough money in the bank to pay your bills every week or is wealth, you know, having a lot of money, but maybe being a too afraid to use it or having a lot of money and taking a risk and paying off debt, but you can't do that. Unless you're taking care of yourself and you have to take time out and the word, you know, I'm too busy to take care of myself. I'm too busy to take a day off. I have to create, you know, whatever you need to create a business that, you know, take time for your family. That is a term that we do not use. It's not a term I will allow in working with clients because no one's ever too busy. If you're too busy, you're not managing your time correctly. And that's where we're going to start because if you are not well, your wealth is off and that will affect everything. So back to your question about You know, three tips for creating wealth. Well, first, you look at everything as baseline. How do you feel? Are you even afraid of wealth or money or finances? You know, where do you, what are your beliefs about that? Let's create abundance. and gratitude and what would balance look like in your life to create that wealth? Because we want to create wealth without creating more stress, which is ultimately going to affect the body. And there's Seems to be something off when we talk about well that the people, who have wealth are always working, working, working. It's not that it's that they take action towards their goals and get the results that they need rather staying stuck. And so you can create balance and take self care for yourself by taking time out. And just having, those moments of, quiet and solitude for you to really frame out what's important to you so that in your calendar, you're building in for days off, you're planning ahead, you know, how much money you have in your bank account and what you need to come in, um, and what do you define as wealth? Some people get to a number of you thinking finances and that's still not enough for them. So find out what wealth is, is, is wealth health as you know, is it having a healthy working lifestyle or is it something else? I think, you know, having wealth. I mean, I would say I have great wealth. I feel like I have great self care. I have a job. I have a roof over my head. And here I am talking to you today, but that could be, you know, I don't have a boat yet or, a second home yet, So there's still wealth to be built, but right now I'm happy, but I know what I need to do to get to the next step. So what is your plan for your wealth? and I think people overlook that they just think that wealth is maybe something that is not for them or just comes, naturally to other people, but everyone has to work for it and it's your desires and goals and your dreams. But a lot of times, people don't have these. So, You know, they're okay with the normal mundane routine of working. I have a job, that's great, but they never get to that next step or have that next realization that there's more to life out there. They just have to choose to want it. And sometimes that's hard for people. so wealth is, so abundant and it can mean so many different things, but Going back to work life balance and self care and, and just create, you know, if you don't have that, I don't know if you could ever have loss. Exactly.
Magic Barclay:And our final standard question is around weight loss. Many people battle with this, and You know, maybe they look at coaches and think, well, you've never had a problem. What would you know? Have you ever battled your weight? If so, how did you win the war? And how can you help people who may be on this roller coaster?
Kathryn Glendon:I love this question so much because yes. I'm on this rollercoaster. I've been up and down it since I was a child. Growing up with people around me always dieting. to date myself, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig. Uh, Nutrisystem was all over commercials. And everyone was trying it like it, what you're supposed to have this perfect body. That was the, the decade. And I didn't have that. I was just a chubby child and I had very skinny friends and I played sports. I loved food, but I was always very insecure, always wanting more, always. Trying some sort of weird diet, eliminating food, trying, you know, wheat watchers, doing everything possibly, you know, staying up late researching it. I knew a little bit from my, um, just from my own and then I went into looking into it more as I went through a master's program in nutrition and, you know, learning how to work with, you know, Diabetes that like our mindset around we is really the battle because we know what we need to do Every day it works. It's the user that maybe gets to lose 10 pounds, but they never work on the behavior To you know, the reason why they're battling with we whether it's eating Too much or too little. And so it just is a repetitive cycle and you're in this cycle until you realize that like the food doesn't own you, you own it and you can choose to have whatever you want in balance. But balance is so hard for people because you know, we go on a diet and we eliminate everything so that. Sometimes we're bound to rebound because I mean, no one can go a whole, you know, their life without ice cream or a cookie. I mean, that's just really unrealistic to me. And that's not what I work with my clients on as our new program for spring forward is coming out for, um, spring forward to your diet. And it's just super important that we learn how well. Eating rate is self care for our body and for our systems and that we need all the right different components, microbes and minerals and vitamin to be our best selves, but I've gone up and down with my wii over at least 20 years, you know experiencing every kind, being diagnosed with eating disorder, seeking therapy for it, you know, avoiding eating. Trips and vacations are going out with friends as I was afraid of gaining weight from the calories. and kind of just limiting my life and it became all around food and I just, I couldn't take that anymore. It was becoming obsessed with it, counting it and it took a long time. I had nutritionist, I would go on and off with them and you know, I found a program where I could really just decide and design what I was eating each day. and it worked for me and I have been able to keep off at least 30 pounds for four years now. and I am proud of that. It's, you know, it's still a struggle because I know how many calories and are in everything. And so if I want to have a a birthday cake on my birthday, like I, you know, it's, it's still struggle or still struggle to see family members who should, you know, be avoiding different foods because of heart related issues to have them. But that's not my journey and it took me a while to realize that or not get upset that other people can have french fries and not gain weight. Bye. You know, it's all about reframing our thoughts and about our bodies and and how food works for us. And that, you know, it's, it's a lifestyle, it's a journey. Um, and we're gonna have up and downs with are we, and that's okay. But My trigger to lose it was I just didn't feel good. Like I just, I didn't like how I felt. I was afraid, you know, I was getting close to type 2 diabetes. I didn't want to be that person and I felt like how can I, you know, go into that? The world of public health and not have good health and take care of myself and then expect other people to if I wasn't. So it was really kind of all embracing the lifestyle. I wanted to live and live by design and not just by default of past errors of diets and eating, whatever I wanted or, or binging or, or so forth. And. You know, you're learning how to talk about your feelings because everything tastes the same after you have three bites. You don't need to eat the whole ice cream or the whole pizza after, you know, it doesn't taste as good as the first bite. And I think when you think about that, like, and you think that, you know, the cupcakes will always be there. You don't have to eat all of them right now. You could just have half is good, but it's hard, especially if you're younger or older, you want to go out of the house on dates or go out with friends in the world that I live in. The culture is, it's all around food. Food is everywhere and yes, food fuels us, but it's also. Fun. And it's also gives us joy and, and, you know, it's special. And so it took a long time for, for me to realize that it's okay to deviate sometimes and, and to loosen the grip around the wheel. And I know what to do to make my body feel good and eat at top performance. And so that's what I try to do because I need to be at top of my game to be the professional I want to be.
Magic Barclay:I love that answer. Thank you. Now we've covered a fair bit already, Kate, and now I'm opening the floor to you. What's something that you feel the listeners need to hear today?
Kathryn Glendon:And so, you know, I think it's super important based on everything that we talked today, that you just kind of. Take a moment and just look at where you are right now in your life and focus on your accomplishments But then also what else do you want to achieve? There's so much out there and what is kind of the blockage to achieving it and where are you getting stuck? And that's where I come in and help clients because I think that if you took away people's stress And that would improve their health. If you gave people a different outlook of being grateful and gratitude, and that only creates more abundance because what you're putting out to the universe always comes back to you, that wealth will come up in different areas. And when you work internally to have A mindset that is reframing things in a positive light. I'm not always focusing on what we don't have, but what we do have is important and that it's. You need to set boundaries around, you know, what's important for you, your family and for work, because if you don't, everything will creep into each other so that you won't have time for your self care, your own needs, and you don't want that. You don't want everything meshing together because everything, Sometimes needs to be separated, and that's called balance and creating boundaries. And it's super important to have those because what we allow will continue. And if we don't like that, then we're just allowing the same results. So, think about who you're surrounding yourself with. Are they supporting you or not supporting you? Like, you know, how high do you want to raise your vibration? And those are the people that should surround you, So that's all a part of what I consider good. mindset health as well, because you always want to be moving in a direction that's positive. And that's, I mean, to be happy every day is really hard. I don't expect that of people. I just expect people to, realize that it's okay. And we move on. And how do we grow? And how do we add value from what maybe mistake or fumble we go through in life? And That's what I'm here to help people realize. And I think it's super important to be compassionate to ourselves because we're not and just really kind of look at if something didn't go right, we'll just kind of talk it out, look at it from a different perspective instead of like shaming ourselves for it. And I think that also helps. With our, our health, because then we know, we get rid of that guilt that we put on ourselves, that these expectations that limited us from living the life that we want, and you need to, move your body and, and eat right for everything to work. And that's a huge part of it, not is self care. And so I hope people find time to do that and I always try to tell people to like, Write, you know, three things that made them happy that day. Three things that if they didn't like how it went, they can, pick their own ending to resolve it. And like adding in fun to your week. It's so important like that you do something during the week that brings you joy. And you could plan it, be by yourself, it could be with friend, family, it could be with anyone. and just have to be related to anything, but something that you like, that makes you happy because if your soul's happy, everything else shines a little bit brighter.
Magic Barclay:So true. Now, something I found on my own journey was. Self care was great to aim for, but I had a lack of sense of self, so I couldn't really achieve self care without understanding what I stood for, what was important to me. So what can you offer the listeners around finding their sense of self?
Kathryn Glendon:finding your sense of self is key. It's hard because you're going inside and you're working on your inner self care, your inner being, your confidence, your mindset, how you feel, you know, the state of what you're in, your anxieties, your fears. And. We have to start there because it's not easy, to just start with something and have the courage to do it because sometimes we lack the confidence, but we have to look and see why we have this lack. Where does that come from? And how can we, how can we fit, like, change it? So you have a little bit confidence to get started. It's not, you know, it's gonna, it's a process to peel back the layers of the old. Of the onion to get to the sense of purpose and peace and hope and how you need to do that. It's different for everyone. And you have to kind of describe sometimes like, what would that look like for you? If you were to take yourself and be the person that you wish you could be, what would that person's self of purpose be or sense of self be? How would that look for you? What would you want yours to be? And then kind of start taking actions to that. So if you wanted to be person who is and knew their sense of being, what are some little things that you could do each day to help get you there? And sometimes it's just like writing nice notes to yourself to build yourself or writing out Emotions that you're feeling or things that have been said to you and, crossing them out because they're not necessarily true. They don't serve you. So it's, let the past be the past. It can't, it can't be undone, but you can, Have control over the present and future. And if you want to do that, then you have to start on your inner self. And that's where you find your sense of purpose and self. And that's also a program that we offer and Glendon coaching because the inner strength comes, the faster recovery comes, the faster you get to your goal.
Magic Barclay:I love that. Thank you so much. Now just looking forward in the world of coaching, I know, you know, the past few years have changed how we often coach. There's less face to face, there's more online. Do you have programs that you run for people? Who may be in different places in the world that can work with you.
Kathryn Glendon:yeah, so everything that I offer is done virtually, so it doesn't matter where you live. we can do a Zoom meeting. Um, we run group programs, as well as individual. We have a personal. Facebook group for people to get advice and support each other. on our website, we have a free complimentary session to see if this is, a right fit and what you want to work on. I'm Glendon coaching. com. But our programs are 45 minutes virtually every week, and they have access to me at least once to twice a week. I'm using whatever type of platform they use, whether it's telegram or another so they can get support each week in additional to their meetings to keep them on track to help them. with the challenges that come and as they get deeper into their work. So, starting soon will be our individual and group, um, spring forward weight loss group, which are different depending on what works best. Some people do better in group settings rather than one on one. And then we have becoming her, which is getting down to finding the person that you want to be and what that person will look like. So, It doesn't matter where you live, it's just a time zone of, of calendar scheduling, and that's easy enough to do. So I'm thankful that the world has these abilities to meet anyone and coach anyone all over the world.
Magic Barclay:Some fantastic offers there. And that website is www. glendoncoaching. com Kate, thanks for joining us today.
Kathryn Glendon:Thank you. I was so great to be here.
